2008/2009

Future Plans In 2008/2009 BURFC hopes to increase its player base by developing a second XV.There are currently around 30 players and the target for 08/09 is 25 new members. The Clubs aims in the 2008-09 season are to gain promotion into the next BUSA league, and win the annual Varsity match. Club Development The BURFC has forged strong links with Ilkley RFC and especially with David Duxbury, (the university coach) who captained Ilkley RFC to clinch the Yorkshire Cup in his playing days. In past seasons most of the university club players have represented Ilkley, which has developed and benefited both squads immensely. The facilities at Ilkley RFC are second to none. Their are no special trails or requirements to play for Ilkley RFC, just commitment to attaining your full potential in rugby union. The University Club has received funding from the RFU for its role in higher education rugby union development. Continued work by the senior members and committee will ensure this funding and link with the RFU remains intact so the club can develop and reach its full potential. Social Rugby The club has a healthy social callendar, from fancy dress nights to the infamous Wednesday night 'Circle'! The club has its usual social night on Wednesdays, where club members engage in the usual post match shananigans. As you might guess, many of the social events revolve around drinking vast quantities of alcohol, although attend is very much a necessity to get to know your team mates, drinking is optional. Off the field the club has worked in partnership with UBU Bars and Walkabout, with 'Escape' being the focul meeting point on wednesdays.
